After studying classical composition (harmony prize at the CNR de Cergy-Pontoise), Sylvain Gontard won 1st prize for soloist in 1995 at the Etrechy jazz competition and in Paris Montmartre in 1996. He then decided to continue his training at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in the jazz class, where he obtained his Diplôme de Formation Supérieure with honors in 2000.
He moved from the stages of the Val d'Oise (young jazz talent in Val d'Oise 1996) to Paris jazz clubs (Villa, Duc des Lombards, Méridien, Petit Opportun, Sunset, Petit Journal, etc.) and festivals (Marciac, Vienne, Nice, Parc floral, Europa Jazz Festival, Nancy Jazz Pulsations, etc.).
He accompanies renowned artists (Liza MINELLI, Melody GARDOT, Wynton MARSALIS, Manu DIBANGO, Michel LEGRAND, Dee Dee BRIDGEWATER, Nguyen LE, Paolo FRESU, Eddy LOUISS, Rhoda SCOTT, Archie SHEPP, Joey BARON, Didier LOCKWOOD, Riccardo DEL FRA, Laurent CUGNY's ONJ, Claude BARTHELEMY's ONJ, NOJAZZ...).
Determined not to confine himself to jazz, he has not hesitated to turn to the theater (Novecento with André DUSSOLLIER 2014 to 2019), opera (Roberto ALAGNA 2012), but also French chanson (Jean-Louis AUBER, Mano SOLO, Charlélie COUTURE, ...), as well as international variety (Lenny KRAVITZ, Al JARREAU, Lionel RICHIE ...).
His artistic versatility makes him a complete and original musician, and one of the most sought-after trumpeters on the French scene.
