Thomas Savy won 1st prize in classical clarinet at the CNR de Paris, then 1st prize in jazz at the CNSM de Paris.
Parallel to his activities in jazz orchestras, he participates in contemporary music and electro projects (INA GRM, Radio France, Zend Avesta, Arnaud Rebotini, Vincent Artaud).
A multi-instrumentalist (saxes, clarinets), his personality is best expressed on bass clarinet.
His dual culture of contemporary music and jazz makes Thomas Savy a musician at ease in the most modern contexts: Christophe Dal Sasso's nonet and big band, Raphaël Imbert's NINE SPIRIT, Pierrick Pédron's sextet, VINTAGE ORCHESTRA, Pierre de Bethmann's MEDIUM ENSEMBLE, Fabien Mary's octet, Guillaume de Chassy's SILENCES trio and BRIDGES quartet, Amy Gamlen's quintet, etc. His albums as a leader have been widely acclaimed.
His albums as leader have been warmly welcomed by the press: "ffff" Télérama; "Choc" Jazz Magazine Jazzman, Jazznews selection; Le Monde; nomination for the Victoires du Jazz, etc.
French Suite - recorded in New York with Scott Colley (double bass) and Bill Stewart (drums) - left a lasting impression, as did the 2 volumes of Archipels.
On the classical scene, Thomas Savy has recorded Schubert with singer Natalie Dessay and pianist Philippe Cassard, and Prokofiev and Eisler with singer Laurent Naouri.
