Born in Marseilles on March 26, 1980, Sylvain Romano studied at the Marseilles Conservatoire, where he obtained a diploma in classical double bass and a gold medal in the jazz department in 2002.
He soon became a much sought-after sideman. He began his career in the Marseille region, accompanying musicians such as Siegfried Kessler, Jerry Bergonzy and René Mailhes.
He later moved to Paris, where he was engaged by many musicians, including Francois Théberge for his project with Lee Konitz, Patricia Barber, Rick Margitza, Laurent de Wilde, Franck Amsallem, Eric Legnini and Baptiste Trotignon. His decisive encounter with the Belmondo brothers soon led to his participation in the majority of their projects: Hymne au Soleil, Wonderland, Belmondo quintet, and notably the Belmondo-Yusef Lateff sextet, which took him to some of the world's greatest concert halls.
He has also accompanied such musicians as Johnny Griffin, Roy Hargrove, Patricia Barber, Tom Harrell, Jeff Ballard, Tigran Hamasyan, Al Foster, Yusef Lateef, Nasheet Waits, Lee Konitz, Dave Liebman, Steve Turre, Jerry Bergonzi, Bill Pierce, Donald Brown, Rick Margitza, La Velle, Kellylee Evans, Valery Ponomarev, Sonny Simmons, Andy Sheppard, Siegfried Kessler, Glenn Ferris, Joe Cohn, François Chassagnite, Simon Goubert, Tim Ries, Jeff Williams, Bob Porcelli, Sara Lazarus, Alain Jean-Marie, Aldo Romano, Laurent de Wilde, Eric Legnini, Laurent Coq, Steve Potts, Marc Fosse, Daniel Humair, Baptiste Trotignon, Michèle Hendricks, Olivier Temime, Franck Avitabile, Fabien Mary...
